PRESS RELEASE: UNINHABITED SCOTTISH ISLAND TO HOST INTERNATIONAL GATHERING FOR HISTORICAL BLESSING

NEWS RELEASE

Tuesday 22nd September 09 - The uninhabited Scottish island of Little Cumbrae will host an international gathering of visitors this Sunday [27th September 09], who will be joining the Island's new owners, Sam and Sunita Poddar, in a celebratory blessing of the land.

As many as a thousand people are expected to join in the 'Hawan' celebrations on Sunday 27th September, which are going to be led by one of the world's leading yog (or yoga) experts and exponents, Swami Ramdev Ji.

Swami Ji is co-founder of the Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust (PYPT) which promotes Yog and the ancient tradition of holistic healing, native to India called Ayurved medicine. Swami Ji's mantra that "Good health is humanity's birth right" has attracted a following of 80 million people throughout the world.
A diverse, cross cultural audience of Patanjali Yog followers from major cities throughout the UK and overseas; invited dignitaries, ministerial leaders, church leaders, academics, and healthcare professionals from Scotland, China, India, Canada, Mauritius, America, South Africa, Dubai and Europe; as well as residents from the nearby seaside towns of Largs, Fairlie and Millport will be among those present to witness the auspicious occasion.

Sam and Sunita Poddar have lived in Glasgow for 25 years and are founders of a successful care home business, called Lambhill Court Limited. They concluded the sale of the island last month for £2million and have pledged the use of the island to the Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust to establish the first five star Pranayam Yog and Ayurved medicine retreat outside of India.

Sunita Poddar who is the international co-ordinator and a trustee of the UK Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust said it was her wishes that the island had something to offer everyone. "Our aim is to make Wee Cumbrae a worldwide destination with something for the whole family to enjoy. Whether it is experiencing the rejuvenating and healing powers of Yog Pranayam and Ayurved, exploring the magnificent history of the island, enjoying the many walking trails, or experiencing the many gifts of nature this beautiful island has to offer, we want to make Wee Cumbrae accessible for everyone."

Those wishing to attend the inaugural blessing of the island this Sunday are invited to join in the Hawan ceremony between 10.30am and 11.30am.  Visitors will also be able to explore the inland lochs and walking trails on the island, as well as tour round the 13th century castle keep and Jekyll Gertrude gardens of the Victorian Mansion House.  An exciting line up of entertainment has been laid on for the day and free refreshments including breakfast and lunch is also being provided.

This is the first time that the island has been open to the public and therefore boats have been specially commissioned for the day to take visitors to and from the island. Anyone interested in joining the day's celebrations should reserve their place to avoid disappointment by contacting telephone 0141 427 7510 or email info@weecumbrae.org  Boats will be leaving from Fairlie Yacht Haven.  For further information visit www.weecumbrae.org.
